The Staycation

Why do holidays capture our imagination and why are we obsessed with creating new experiences for ourselves and our families? Our history is one of pioneering. We are forever searching and striving for those perfect moments we will remember for the rest of our lives.

The annual paid holiday is a fairly new phenomenon in our history. Holidays really came into their own in the 20th century. By the outbreak of war in 1939, over 200 holiday camps were developed at different U.K. seaside locations. Harry Warner and Billy Butlin were the main players in this development.

The majority of UK residents were already used to the “staycation”, holidaying in their country of residence. When did the term “staycation” arrive in our vocabulary? It is attributed to a Canadian comedian, Brent Butt, in 2005.

The four home nations which make up the United Kingdom are packed full of fabulous experiences, scenery, beaches, restaurants and travel by air is not needed. Air travel is by far the biggest contributor to climate change. By holidaying in the U.K. you are helping the environment!

Holidaying in the U.K. takes the stress out of sorting out all of the passports and documents for the family and there is no need to sort out foreign currency.

There are so many advantages to a staycation.

No language barrier!

There is no luggage allowance.

Freedom to use your own transport.

Great events are held ranging from Glastonbury Festival to The Fringe in Edinburgh Amazing walks( think Snowdonia, the Peak District and the Lake District).

Plenty of adventure (Scuba diving/ skydiving) Wonderful beaches.

Discovering the U.K.’s rich history. How much of this have you tapped into?

Fantastic restaurants offering delicious food ranging from gourmet dining to classic pub grub.

We have experienced some absolutely stunning weather so far this summer. There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!!!

Holidays are good for our health!! They are those rare occasions when we break free from our daily routine and give ourselves the freedom to focus on new experiences and, most importantly, ourselves.
