There are thousands of motivating quotes and the internet has been a huge source of these, which is a fantastic development. Any contribution to the World's positive flow of communication has to be welcomed - there is such a huge amount of negative words that must be kept at bay. Motivational words are the fruit and veg of personal development and we recommend at least five servings a day!
Always dream and shoot higher than you know how to. Don't bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.
- William Faulkner
Our Deepest Fear by Marianne Williamson
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our Light, not our Darkness that frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you NOT to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that others won't feel insecure around you.
We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just some of us, it is everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear our presence automatically liberates others.
The Source of Our Deepest Fear
This piece was originally published on this site as 'Nelson Mandela's inauguration speech'. However I received an email from John in the USA who pointed out that it was actually by Marianne Williamson. The attribution to Nelson Mandela has been widely published on the internet, but in fact he has never used this quote. Marianne's website is www.marianne.com where she describes the mis-attribution in wonderfully generous terms.
