How it works

How does Drumming Icebreakers work?

The Drumming Icebreaker is a short version of our Drumming event for 10 to 500 people, where a professional conductor turns your group into a drumming orchestra in under an hour. Here's how it runs.

  1. Find your drum

Everyone finds a drum next to their seat. No musical skill is needed, and it soon feels second nature.

  2. Join a rhythm section

Our conductor groups everyone into rhythm sections, and the Rhythm Master teaches each one its own rhythm.

  3. Layer the sound

The rhythms are interlinked like an orchestra to create one powerful sound, with ideas from individual drummers built in.

  4. The finale

A finale full of surprise and energy brings everything together, to lift the roof.

FAQs

Drumming Icebreakers: Frequently Asked Questions

Every participant receives a drum and follows a professional conductor through a series of simple rhythms. Different parts of the room learn separate patterns, which are gradually layered together to create one powerful group performance.

No musical knowledge is required. The conductor introduces each beat in manageable stages, and the rhythm quickly becomes natural once everyone begins playing together. Enthusiasm and listening matter much more than previous drumming ability.

Yes. A drum is placed beside each participant's seat, allowing the entire delegation to become involved at the same time rather than waiting for a turn or watching a small group perform.

The conductor divides the group into sections and teaches each one a separate pattern. Those patterns interlock, demonstrating how individual contributions can sound simple alone but become much more impressive when they are coordinated.

The Rhythm Master can incorporate participants' own musical suggestions into the performance. This gives the session a more personal character and allows confident delegates to contribute without making musical experience a requirement for everyone else.

The session lasts approximately one hour and can also be formatted to run slightly under an hour. It is designed to fit neatly into a meeting or conference without taking over the wider agenda.

Yes. Drumming Icebreakers can accommodate approximately 10 to 500 people. A larger delegation creates an especially impressive collective sound while still allowing each person to make a direct contribution.

It works well as an opening activity, a return-from-lunch energiser or a transition between demanding conference sessions. The immediate noise and participation can change the atmosphere in the room within minutes.

The group plays together, so individuals are not expected to perform a solo. The simple rhythms and collective format allow hesitant participants to join in gradually without feeling that the whole room is watching them.

The final performance only works when people listen, keep time and support the sections around them. It provides a memorable demonstration of interdependence, showing how a group can produce something powerful when its separate parts work together.
