Overview

Race to Build

Stand alongside Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull as you create a winning team for our F1 Challenge. Design, build and then race your own F1 car in this riveting indoor team building event.

Your team is supplied with a pre-designed chassis which is the starting block for the car. You then blueprint a bodywork design to build and brand your car, winning points for the best designs. Be careful to stay within the legal specifications - you don’t want to be disqualified…

Formula 1 is about more than just the cars though, you will also need to design a brand for your team. Team hats, overalls and the car must be branded with your logo and sponsors’ names after you have pitched your theme to our experts.

Finally the cars are lined up for a head to head race down the track into the pits where your pit team remove and replace the tyres as fast as possible before charging back to the start!

About

Head To Head Team Challenge

Teams are supplied a variety of materials to build and decorate their cars, but are encouraged to think creatively and scavenge anything which will make their design stand out. The scrutineers will then inspect your designs and award points for interesting and innovative construction.

You’ll need to justify the sponsorship deals you’ve created to our F1 Branding Manager; bonus points for clever company names and amusing sponsors’ logos. The Grand Finale is a head to head team relay and pit stop challenge, with the winning team crowned World Champions.

This event combines creative design and raw competition to generate a hugely enjoyable day and a great team building experience. This event enjoys fantastic feedback; we find everyone really gets involved – just watch the video to see what our clients have to say….

The F1 Challenge can be run in most venues with a large indoor space. Over more than 25 years we’ve worked with hundreds of venues across the UK so we can suggest a perfect venue near you.

How does F1 Challenge work?

F1 Challenge is an indoor team building event for 10 to 150 people, where teams design, build, brand and race their own Formula 1-style car. It lasts 2 to 3 hours. Here's how it runs.

Each team starts with a pre-designed chassis as the base for its car.

  2. Design and build

Teams blueprint and build the bodywork using the materials provided, plus anything they can scavenge, while staying within the legal specifications.

  3. Brand your team

Teams create a brand, with a team name, logo and sponsors, and brand their car, hats and overalls after pitching to our F1 Branding Manager.

  4. Scrutineering

Our scrutineers inspect every car and award points for interesting and innovative construction.

  5. Race day

The grand finale is a head-to-head relay and pit stop challenge, and the winning team is crowned World Champions.

    Tangible results

Every team sees its ideas become a finished car, ready to race.

  • friendly competition

    Friendly competition

Scrutineering, pitching and a head-to-head finale keep the rivalry going.

The general feedback from the team was that they were expecting a more traditional “teambuilding exercise” which a number of them had done in the past and so were all really surprised how much they enjoyed this. I think the competition element really helped and has certainly still got everyone talking about it today – some are even still wearing their caps!

FAQs

F1 Challenge: Frequently Asked Questions

Teams receive a pre-designed chassis and must turn it into their own Formula 1-style car. They design the bodywork, develop a team brand, pitch for points and prepare their vehicle for a head-to-head race and pit-stop finale.

The chassis is supplied as a starting point, allowing teams to focus on designing and constructing the bodywork. The finished car still needs to meet the event specifications, so imaginative engineering must be balanced with practical decision-making.

Each team creates its own identity, including a name, logo and fictional sponsors. The car, hats and overalls are branded before participants pitch their concept to the F1 Branding Manager and explain the thinking behind it.

Scrutineers inspect each vehicle for legal specifications, construction and creativity. Points can be awarded for innovative design and clever branding, while a car that ignores the rules risks losing ground before reaching the track.

The completed cars compete in a head-to-head team relay. Drivers race down the track and enter the pits, where their pit crew must change the tyres quickly before the vehicle returns towards the finish.

No. The challenge includes design, engineering, branding, sponsorship, pitching, driving and pit-crew roles. Teams perform best when they match people to suitable jobs instead of expecting every participant to do the same thing.

The event requires a large indoor space for the construction stations and final racetrack. It can be delivered at suitable conference venues and hotels across the UK, with venue recommendations available if required.

The complete event lasts approximately two to three hours. This includes designing and building the cars, developing the brands, scrutineering and the competitive race finale.

F1 Challenge can accommodate approximately 10 to 150 participants. The group is divided into racing teams, giving each one its own vehicle, brand and coordinated attempt to become the event's world champions.

Teams must manage time, technical restrictions, creative ideas and several specialised roles. A striking car alone will not win: design, construction, presentation and race-day execution all need to support the same strategy.
